OUR BELIEFS The Bible At FBC, we believe that the Bible is the divinely and especially inspired Word of God. It is the guide for faith and the practice of Christians. It is the final authority in all spiritual matters. 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:21 Sin We believe that through Adam, as well as by their own volition, all have sinned and are in need of a savior. Romans 3:23, Romans 5:17-19 Salvation We believe that salvation comes by the grace of God after repentance and through the new birth. This is experienced by exercising personal faith in the vicarious death of Jesus Christ. We further believe in the freeness of salvation to ALL who will believe. Ephesians 2:8, John 3:3, Romans 6:8, Revelation 22:17 The Godhead We believe in the Holy Trinity. This is God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. They each are co-equal, and they all are eternal. 1 John 5:7, 1 Timothy 2:5, John 1:1-4 The Person of Christ We believe in the miraculous virgin birth of Jesus as set forth in the Gospels and that He was Deity incarnate. Matthew 1:18, John 14:11 The Ordinances We believe that the Ordinances of a New Testament Church are Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Baptism is symbolic and rightly observed only when the candidate is immersed in water. The Lord’s Supper should be observed only as a memorial of the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ and only those who have been baptized scripturally should partake in it. Matthew 3:16-17, Matthew 26:28, Romans 6:4, 1 Corinthians 11:25-26 The Gospel Church We believe that the New Testament Church is a body of baptized believers banded together in a spiritual democracy. We also believe that each congregation is autonomous and that Christ alone is the Head of the church. We believe that Christ commanded His church to “go into all the world and preach the Gospel.” We believe that this command is ours to obey. Acts 2:41, Colossians 1:18, Matthew 28:19-20 The Second Advent We believe that in the “hour which we think not,” Christ will make His personal and visible return. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 Marriage We believe that the word “marriage” means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife. The word “spouse” refers to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or wife. Mark 10:6-9 |
